The most common reason for a puppy or a dog to chew up your stuff is boredom and not enough release. Your puppy needs a way to vent bottled up boredom and plenty of exercise and play generally alleviates this need. With Siberian Huskies this is incredibly true. Their energy level is very high and plenty of excersize and play will benifit his and your health too! Excersize your puppy everyday to alleviate stress and boredom. Have a set schedule to play with your puppy everyday. This will also increase the bond between the two of you. When you catch your puppy chewing on something he shouldn't, make a loud noise, distract him from it and give him an acceptable chew toy. When and only when he has taken it, praise him lavishly. Use the product "Bitter Apple" to avert his chewing from the inappropriate items. Puppies cannot tell the difference between good and bad chew toys. They must be taught good and bad, Never give your puppy any inappropriate items. Such as: socks, shoes, etc. Supervise your puppy. Don't give them the chance to go in areas where you cannot monitor they're play. You can shut doors, use baby gates, tether them to you or a door where you can keep your eye on them. When you must leave your puppy unattended leave them in an area with no temptations. A laundry room, puppy pen, playpen, or a crate. Never leave a less than 5 month old puppy alone for more than 5 hours as they can not be expected to hold their bladder or bowels longer than that.
Most importantly put your pet first. Think like he's thinking. Like you, he just wants something to do. As dog owners and lovers, we must provide our pets with enough positive stimulation to prevent bad behaviors from beginning.
